The City of La Porte was founded in 1830 in northwest Indiana. The La Porte Police Department was founded as a metropolitan police department in 1910.
Today, the La Porte Police Department’s 44 sworn and five civilian support personnel serve more than 22,000 residents across the city’s 12.2 square miles.
MISSION STATEMENT
The La Porte Police Department will provide efficient, cost-effective, full-service law enforcement to the citizens of and visitors to La Porte, Indiana in a manner that is responsive to the ever-changing needs of the community through the application of proven community policing and problem-solving strategies.

La Porte Police Department personnel realize that that the most important tool that we have to fight crime in our community is the assistance we receive from the stakeholders in our community. We strongly encourage you if you are the victim of a crime, if you witness a crime or if you even witness a suspicious to contact us immediately.
If you have information regarding suspected criminal activity such as a possible drug house in your neighborhood; you know the whereabouts of a wanted person or you have information about someone being involved in criminal activity please submit the information by using the Crime Tips Form on our Forms page.
