Local region makes most affordable rankings
The greater La Porte/Michigan City community was also recognized in a recent edition of Bottom Line Magazine for making their top 10 list of the most affordable places to live in the U.S. Citing the area’s small-town feel, close proximity to Chicago and average home price of $238,000, the publication slated the local region at the No. 10 spot.

City snags No. 2 spot in 'Best Small Town in the Midwest Contest'
The City recently took the No. 2 spot for USA Today’s Best Small Town in the Midwest contest. La Porte was one of just 20 communities nominated by the national news outlet’s panel of journalists and experts. In their description of La Porte, USA Today notes the city’s “year-round fun thanks to its three scenic lakes, historic downtown, and vibrant community events.”

Microsoft announces plans for $1B data center in the City of La Porte
Microsoft recently announced that it will invest $1 billion to establish a new data center in the City of La Porte. The new facility, which will create up to 200 new jobs by the end of 2032, will accelerate cloud computing infrastructure to support growth in technology and artificial intelligence worldwide. Nest La Porte
Joining forces with Center Township Trustee Lisa Pierzakowski, the City has partnered with Nest Community Shelter to bring a temporary emergency shelter – dubbed Nest La Porte – to the former train depot at 809 Washington Street. The shelter is open nightly from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. now through April 25.
In addition to providing a meal and a warm, safe place to sleep, Nest La Porte will also offer connections to resources that will help individuals get the support they need.
