Custodian II is responsible for keeping the Civic Auditorium and grounds clean and orderly. The Custodian prepares the building and grounds for public and private use, performing regular maintenance tasks and repair of all equipment. Flexible schedule including weekend and evening availability for events as scheduled at the Civic Auditorium.

At the direction of Custodian I, duties include but are not limited to the following:

Performs and assists others in daily clean up and janitorial duties, including sweeping and mopping, setting up and tearing down tables and chairs for meetings and events, and post event clean up.

Cleans and sanitizes public restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans tables and drinking fountains. Empties trash cans and garbage.

Cuts grass, trims hedges, and removes snow and ice on the exterior walkways and properties assigned to the Civic Auditorium.

Available for weekends and evening events as scheduled at the Auditorium.

Opens and closes, locks and unlocks Auditorium as needed. Enforces rules of usage of the Auditorium and makes appropriate reports of usage or unusual happenings to management.

Performs routine repair and maintenance tasks on plumbing, electrical, and equipment such as lawn mowers and snow blowers.

Operates lawn mowers, string trimmers and other lawn maintenance equipment and tools. Operates floor scrubber, wax stripper, mops and brooms.

Performs routine maintenance to lights on catwalks 30-feet above floor. Climbs ladders in excess of fifteen feet to perform routine maintenance tasks.

Ability to work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees, work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule, use equipment and tools properly and safely, and read and interpret labels on chemicals and supplies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.  The employee is occasionally required to complete tasks from a ladder in excess of fifteen feet (15’), routine maintenance of spotlights on catwalks, i.e., clean, inspect, adjust and change light bulbs, hang and remove decorations and be able to operate and perform tasks on the Genie lift.  The duties of this job require heavy lifting, frequent bending, and walking.

Meets the above physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties, and performs other tasks as assigned.

High school diploma or high school equivalency (HSE) and three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
