La Porte is innovative in its approach to business development. The City of La Porte employs Urban Enterprise Zones and economic incentives for mixed-use development, business innovation funding, and building facade upgrades. Our vision is to encourage small and large-scale economic development. We are flexible and ready for big ideas or great execution from local businesses and today's enterprises. Today, approximately 100 companies either manufacture or distribute products from the La Porte area.

Farms, Food, and Art Culture are part of everyday life and tourism in La Porte. La Porte’s local Farms, Orchards, Farmer’s Market, and the Jackson Street Community Garden aim to bring authentic farm-fresh produce to La Porte restaurants, as well as, strengthen the local food movement in our community. The La Porte Art Scene is alive in Historic Downtown La Porte with the local-artisan commissioned "The History of La Porte" mural, The Little Theater Club, and a growing list of Artisan galleries. La Porte's goal is to foster a vibrant community of regional artists who create art, music, and culture within our city. Farmers, Artisans, and traditions like apple picking, Saturday mornings downtown, The La Porte City Band, and Arts in the Park are bringing our community together.

La Porte is a gateway that is literally accessible by transportation and to higher education. La Porte’s Municipal Airport is 3 miles south of downtown and has been operating since the 1920s. For Regional, National, or International travel South Bend International and Chicago O’Hare are just 30 and 90 minutes away. The South Shore Train Station is just 19 minutes away from La Porte making Chicago commuting distance. Dual Rail and highways are accessible to our Thomas Rose Business District. Award-winning higher education is accessible to the City of La Porte. Purdue University Northwest's College of Technology was recently awarded the coveted National Cybersecurity Designation for their BS in Computer Information Technology degrees.
