COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG)

 

                The Community Development Block Grant Program began in 2004 in the City of LaPorte.  Funded projects must meet one of the national objectives established by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.  These objectives are  benefitting low- and moderate-income persons, preventing or eliminating slums or blight, or meeting other community needs having an urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to health or welfare of the community and other financial resources are not available to meet such needs.

 

 

 

PUBLIC HEARING ON PROGRAM YEAR 2024 CDBG USE OF FUNDS TO BE HELD

Notice is hereby given by the City of La Porte expects to receive federal Community Development Block Grant funds to be used effective October 1, 2024.  The amount of the entitlement has yet to be determined.  These funds may be used and have been previously used for a variety of projects targeting income-qualified individuals and census tracts of low and moderate-income areas.  Citizens wishing to express their views on how this funding should be spent may speak at the public hearing and/or submit written comments for the records.

Eligible activities include:

  • Public service activities
  • Physical barrier elimination for the disabled
  • Public facilities and improvements
  • Street improvements
  • Demolition of blighted structures
  • Housing programs
  • Economic Development

Residents of La Porte are invited to attend this public hearing on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 1:15 PM at City Hall, Council Chambers, 801 Michigan Avenue, La Porte, Indiana to express citizens’ views on the local community development needs to be met with these funds.

PUBLIC HEARING ON CDBG CONSOLIDATED PLAN 2024-2028 ANALYSIS OF FAIR HOUSING IN LA PORTE TO BE HELD

The City of La Porte is soliciting community input for a pending Analysis of Fair Housing for the City of La Porte. As a part of this analysis, the Office of Community Development and Planning is conducting a public meeting to identify fair housing issues, impediments to housing choice and availability of affordable housing in the City of LaPorte. The meeting will be held at the City Hall on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. local time  at the Council Chambers, First Floor, City Hall, 801 Michigan Ave., La Porte, IN, 46350. All residents interested agencies and organizations are invited to participate in this Meeting.

The City of La Porte intends to use the collected information to formulate recommendations to expand fair housing and eliminate impediments that may exist in the City.

PROGRAM YEAR 2023 PUBLIC SERVICE PROPOSALS SOUGHT

 

The City of La Porte’s Office of Community Development is currently seeking proposals for its Public Services Program funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

Proposed projects must be able to demonstrate a clear role in improving the quality of life for low- and moderate-income citizens of La Porte and must further the goals of self-sufficiency and self-reliance for La Porte residents. The deadline to submit a proposal is noon on Friday, May 24, 2024.

A technical assistance meeting for those organizations that are new to the process will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall (801 Michigan Avenue). Please contact the Office of Community Development and Planning to register for the meeting.
