Animal Care & Control
Our mission is to protect and support the pets and people within our community.
Animal Control Program
The City is committed to an Animal Control Program that will serve its residents as well as treat animals humanely. The Animal Control Officer is empowered and required to enforce Chapter 6 of the City of La Porte Municipal Code and to respond to calls for assistance within the boundaries of the City of La Porte.
Dog Registration
Per City Code, every person owning, keeping, or harboring any dog shall, on or before January 1st of each year, apply for a license and have such dog registered in the Office of the Clerk-Treasurer together with full description of the breed, sex, size, color and weight of the dog and shall pay a fee to the City Clerk-Treasurer for such dog. This process is easy and affordable and helps to keep both our pets and residents safe.
To apply for registration, your dog must have current vaccines from a veterinarian. The registration process usually takes 24 hours to process to verify vaccinations. The registration will be placed on hold until verification is complete. Once the vaccines have been verified you will then be able to pay the registration fee. The registration fees are $10 for unaltered & $5 for altered.
Registration can be completed at the Utility Billing Office at City Hall (801 Michigan Ave) or online by clicking here.
