Downtown LaPorte buildings are in serious need of repair. La Porte should adopt a similar policy as Valparaiso and offer incentives to aid in the repair and restoration of downtown buildings and facades. Removing of boarded up windows and new paint would do the most to improve the look of our downtown. We should also do what we can to stop the rampant demolition of historic buildings that has been plaguing our Historical Downtown recently. We have lost St Pauls church, Western Inn and the Pine Lake Fire Station in such a short period of time and now the city plans to destroy the Woolworth building. Demolishing buildings does cost money, and while most are privately done, many are done by the city at Tax Payer expense. We need to stop razing buildings and start restoring them if we want to save our downtown.

Try to get more college classes or training opportunities offered in the city of Laporte. PNC and Ivy Tech are too far away for some. Having a trained workforce may help bring in business.

Connect Downtown by waterway as well by connecting Lilly lake to Stone through the existing channel....allowing access by canoe or kayak (activities that should be much more popular in La Porte). Start a gofundme....assign tasks for volunteers...let's just get going because this city has enormous potential.

Why are we not spending money on new roads in the city of La Porte? Instead of purchasing new police cars which were not needed since we just bought new cars a couple years ago, or putting in a downtown park, the city should be fixing our streets. And I don't mean filling in pot holes either! Or maybe the city should start paying for the damage being done to it's citizens vehicles. The mayor advertises what a great place La Porte is to live in but who wants to move here if you can't drive from one end of town to the next without hitting 100 holes . Stop putting the cities money into things that are not needed and fix our roads!!!

During the summer, we have several events, but LaPorte seems to be lacking on winter activities. Similar to the Maple City Grand Prix, I wanted to suggest possibly holding more activities on the frozen lakes, such as ATV or Snow Mobile races. They do this in Cedar Lake - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSvLRpHA9ck I understand that its more difficult to predict temperatures in the winter along with much more safety issues. I think it is something to consider.

I have a brother with autism and I drop him off and pick him up from school sometimes. When I walk into his supposed to be 'sensory friendly' classroom I see bright light bulbs (the same is in the other classrooms), all of the desks are close together, and the only sensory equipment is the tiny trampoline in the corner. There has to be some way for those children to have a sensory room. I believe this would be very beneficial to them. I would be willing to set up fundraisers or anything I could do to help. Those kids deserve better and I think as a community we can provide them with what they need! For the sensory room I was thinking a swing, some exercise balls, some walls with different textures, nice cushion floor, some soft lighting, and maybe even a little corner that is blocked off slightly if someone needed to calm down. I have so many ideas, please let me know your thoughts!!!

We have this great area where a cool old church used to be (for instance?!) that a hospital bought up and turned into grass, and now they're gonna move a coupla blocks down the road right? How about a parking garage, probably a couple stories high would be sufficient in that area? How about an indoor car wash area, some indoor vending? Heck, dig down, and have some underground offices, maybe even a shelter for underprivileged?? It gets really cold sometimes, and there aren't enough slots for people to get shelter. Why can't we provide such a thing? It could pay for itself I think, and even if it didn't? Well, we pay for the area already, maybe it would offset that by a bit.

There are several spots around town that need the overgrowth to be cut back. This not only is causing traffic hazard, but, also an eyesore. One place for example is the north side of 1st street between Weller and Central. This spot, we pass by almost every time we go out. While heading west on this street and traffic is in the lane heading east, there is one of two choices, either stop or take the chance of getting your car scratched/damaged by the overgrowth.

(Kris Kringle Blitz and Santa Parade), we think in observing Shop Local Saturday, a.k.a. Small Business Saturday, that we could get some interest by offering Specials to customers, The La Porte Co-op Shoppes is offering "Specials Throughout both buildings #1 and #2". Also, The La Porte Co-op Shoppes is happy to announce our new food vendor, “A Slice of Heaven!” Come join us and enjoy main dishes like pulled pork, bratwurst, hot dogs, and meatball subs. Also, follow it up with some Amish Acres pie, Valpo Velvet Ice Cream and a cup of gourmet coffee! Or, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or a root beer float. We are offering extended hours, open rom 9 am until 6 pm. Depending on the community response, we will know if we need to repeat this event more often.

Knowing that we are young and live in a small town, we don't have anywhere close, (not even in Michigan City) to study and talk about our ideas. We all currently have jobs that we work during the day, so we cannot usually hang out at the library or cafes all the time. We think that it doesn't seem inviting for private talking. And the hours in which they are open are not helpful. We also do not want to buy something at a restaurant every time just to sit down and discuss our business plans and using electric outlets and Wi-Fi, because that gets expensive after a while. We need somewhere small to hang out and discuss things other than at a house, where it is chaotic because of siblings. I am sure that this is something that the whole community would benefit from
