The Wastewater Department of the City of La Porte is planning to relocate the sanitary sewer in the 100-500 blocks of Lakeside Street. The project is schedule to be bid this winter and constructed in the spring/summer of 2017.
Addresses that will be affected by the project are:
109 to 525 Lakeside Street
201 to 326 Waverly Road
304 Orchard Bluff
305 to 410 Closser Ave
The existing sanitary in this area was installed during very low lake levels in the 1950's.With normal lake levels, the sewer is under the lake in certain areas.A failure of the almost 60 year-oldsewer would be very difficult to repair and could result in the release of sewage into Pine Lake.A failure might also result in an extended loss of sewer service for customers on the line.
A public meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for January 12th at 6:30 pm in the Pompeii room at T-Bones (1110 Lakeside Street).
Some of the topics to be discussed during the meeting will be:
1) Existing Situation
Sewer is almost 60 years old
Very difficult to repair
Could release sewage to lake
Very difficult to make new connections
There are many septic systems on lots located on the lakeshore
2) Options Considered
Lining sewer to extend life
Replace with gravity sewer in yards
A Vacuum operated sewer
3) Proposed Solution
Grinder pump at each lot
Low pressure sewers in yards and under streets

Due to the need to run sewer lines from the individual homes to the new grinder pump stations, the city will request easements be allowed, first for the installation of the new system, then smaller easements for future maintenance and cleaning of the system. A copy of the City's easement request form can be found HERE.
