Get ready to break a sweat, strengthen your body and burn calories while having fun! This class brings a cardiovascular workout using upbeat music and an aerobic step. Includes smooth dances such as Foxtrot and Tango, as well as rhythm dances such as Swing, Salsa, Hustle and Cha Cha. Meet new people, stay active, reduce stress and develop body awareness with this fun class. Go to your next party and actually be able to get up and DANCE! If you are staying on top of fitness trends, you know that barre workouts, which are designed to give you a long, lean dancer-like physique, are all the rage! While all barre workouts differ slightly in structure, most combine elements of ballet, Pilates and yoga. Barre exercises rely mainly upon one’s body weight for resistance and the moves challenge your core stability and balance. Taught by Certified Instructor Becca Masters. Cost is $30 per session. Pre-registration is required; however, walk-ins are welcome at a $8 per class fee. Our five-week session will be held from 6-6:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (use the ramp at the Plain Street entrance). If you are looking for a fun, creative outlet, try one of our ceramic classes. It provides a great way to get away and meet friends, all while making some unique projects for yourself or gifts for others. We offer pre-registered specialty classes as well as open classes, held in the Ceramics Room at the Civic Auditorium. The fee of the specialty classes varies per project and includes everything necessary to complete the project. The cost is $6 per class during the open classes. The Comic Book Project ™
The Comic Book Project™ is a world-renowned literacy initiative that has engaged more than 200,000 learners in a creative process leading to academic achievement, social awareness and community development. By engaging youths in brainstorming, sketching, plotting, designing and publishing original comic books, Comic Book Project™ encourages students to become active learners and content creators, rather than mere information receivers. The cost for Comic Book Project™ I is $80 for 7 classes beginning September 17. Deadline to register for CBP I is September 12 and CBP II is October 15. The cost for Comic Book Project™ II is $90 for 9 classes beginning October 15. Each session meets twice a week on Mondays and Tuesday from 4-5:30 p.m. at Cummings Lodge. Kooking with Kids
This five-week cooking class is a fun, interactive cooking class that provides a hands-on experience for children in cooking/preparing healthy dishes and snacks with the five food groups. Kids cooking programs are a fantastic way to get kids interested and even excited about healthy foods. Participants have the opportunity to create healthy meals that teach kids important math and reading skills as they follow recipes and measure ingredients. Explore, capture, create. Want to learn the fundamentals of photography? Have questions about your camera? Learn how to shoot photos like a professional from self-taught photographer Larry Noel. Pottery - Wheel Throwing
The art of wheel throwing is both a therapeutic and expressive way to create pottery. This class focuses solely on techniques in throwing clay forms on a pottery wheel. During the seven-week class, students will learn to apply aesthetics, proper thickness and craftsmanship needed to make functional pottery. You'll be guided by local artist Alayna Bublitz who has a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art with a concentration in ceramics. Learn the process of making, decorating and glazing your work. A class for all skill levels. The fee for the program is $74. We offer an adults class (ages 16 and up) on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Friday afternoon classes are held from 3-5 p.m. All classes are held in the Ceramics Room in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (use the ramp at the Plain Street entrance). Monday classes will be held September 10-November 5 (no class October 15). Thursday classes will be held September 13-November 1 (no class October 18). Step your way to fitness, friends and fun! In cooperation with the La Porte County Public Library, join us on a new twist on a book club! We want you to get out and get moving while listening to audiobooks. After walking together at one of the beautiful park trails, share highlights of your audiobook with the other Story Steppers. Yoga at the Civic
Yoga can help soothe the mind and lower stress levels by focusing the mind on the moment and movements rather than on external distractions.
